Το επίκεντρο του σεισμού εντοπίστηκε στο Παρατεμπουένο, μια πόλη που βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 187 χιλιομέτρων από την πρωτεύουσα, όπου μια δυνατή σεισμική δόνηση έγινε αισθητή για αρκετά δευτερόλεπτα, σύμφωνα με την ίδια πηγή.
Το μέγεθος του σεισμού ήταν 6,3 σύμφωνα με το Ινστιτούτο Γεωφυσικής των ΗΠΑ (USGS), 6,4, σύμφωνα με το Γερμανικό Κέντρο Έρευνας για τις Γεωεπιστήμες (GFZ) το οποίο ανέφερε ότι το εστιακό του βάθος ήταν 11 χιλιόμετρα.
